CONCLUSION

It is believed there is no better time to commence this campaign than now.

The Kennel Club continue to indicate displeasure with GSD breed representatives and limit the number of CCs available. This initiative would show the Kennel Club that there is support for the properly constructed dog which is being stifled by those who are adhering to the German SV style dog.

The Kennel Club did not expect the backlash it suffered after the vet checks at Crufts, exemplified by the formation of the Canine Alliance. The Alsatian breed would welcome the checks (as applied to GSDs) because they are aimed at problems of conformation that are largely not present in Alsatians. (This is not to suggest that all Alsatian type dogs do not have conformation issues. Some do but the variation from the KC standard is such that it is not causing major health problems such as “frog’s legs”)

It is hoped this initiative will be endorsed by the clubs involved in promoting Alsatian type dogs and they will be invited to do so. They will also be invited to commit to changing their breed alliance to the Alsatian if the breed is recognised.

There are people who are prepared to take this up and make it work, irrespective of support. Those people are only interested in the creation of a breed of which we can be proud. As such the people initially driving this campaign are comparatively unknown within the German Shepherd breed and hold no office within existing breed clubs. This is deliberate in order to avoid any suggestion that it’s the “same old” people furthering their own personal or political objectives

Finally, the contents of this document are open to constructive comment. The people that have been consulted in its preparation have been more than helpful but the interpretation of their input may not necessarily be exact. The term 'Alsatian' for the breed we want to create has been used as it is believed it has an historical resonance and that the public at large still identify our dogs as Alsatians. However, there may be better names. We would be delighted to hear them.

If you wish to offer support to the campaign please use the contact form.

A closed Facebook Group has been created and supporters will be welcomed to join that. As far as possible we will keep people up to date via email and/or Facebook and Twitter.

Finally, for those people who still think that the public at large disagree with our stance, we can do no more than re-show that part of Pedigree Dogs Exposed which featured the type of dog, the SV type, which is the now the majority of the breed.
